Candidates may take no more than 2 resits per subject. This came into effect from Saturday 1 September 2012 and applies to all candidates. Unsuccessful attempts by any existing trainees prior to 1 September 2012 do not count towards this limit. Any test taken from Saturday 1 September 2012 therefore counts as a first attempt.
Before booking a resit you should consider any areas of weakness which were highlighted on the score report of your previous attempt. If you fail 2 resits (3 tests in total) in either numeracy or literacy you won't be able to book any further resits for 24 months from the date of the second resit (last failed attempt). This gives candidates a reasonable time to become proficient at the skills assessed in the tests before further attempts.
Once the 24 month lock-out period is complete, 3 further test attempts will become available to candidates. Please be aware that further test attempts only become available after a formal lock-out period. The number of test attempts available does not automatically reset every 24 months. Candidates are only locked out when they have failed 3 test attempts. For example, if a candidate fails 2 attempts, then waits 25 months to take a third attempt and is unsuccessful, the lockout will begin from the date of the latest test attempt (ie the third failed attempt) and no further attempts will be available for a further 24 months.
After a minimum period of 48 hours since the previous test, you will be able to log into your account to book the resit.
Skills test passes for applicants to ITT courses remain valid for 3 years. You must start an ITT course within this period. If you are applying for a course which starts beyond the period of validity, you will need to re-take the skills tests.
The first attempt at each numeracy and literacy test is provided free of charge. Resits are charged at £19.25 each. Payment will be required by credit or debit card when booking.
Failure to attend a test appointment may result in the loss of fees or the loss of entitlement to a free attempt.
